Bedtime
So a few funny/sweet things happened last night during the 2 hr bedtime battle. (-:
(1). Last night, both Samantha and the boys were ready to be put down about the same time. So, I put the boys in the tub and then went to feed Samantha (with the door open so I could still hear them). When I was about 30 sec away from finishing up with Samantha, I hear this:
Micah: "I all done...Micah go poopy."
Noah: "Uh-oh"
Yeah, so I quickly finished up with Samantha and went running in there. Disgusting! I asked: "Did you go poopy?"
Noah: "Micah go BIG poopy!"
Micah: "Yes, me go poopy."
Me: "Micah, we only go poopy in the big boy potty or our diapers, ok?"
Micah (with the most sincere little tears in his eyes): "I so sorry Mommy."
So sweet, I melted and was no longer upset...we just made a game of getting all the "brown bugs" out of the tub, cleaned them off with antibacterial wash and had the shower head "rain" on them...it ended up being quite fun.
(2) Micah was screaming, so he lost his binky (the newest rule, which actually seems to be working rather well...I really wanted to get rid of their binkies all together, but I'll keep them for a while if it will help them learn to go to sleep). He screamed for about 20 min and then got quiet. Once he had been quiet for 2-3 min, I took his binky back to him, but before I gave it to him, I asked if he was going to be quiet now. I didn't hear any answer, so I asked again, and again, and again. Finally, I hear the softest ever little wisper: "yes....." I think he had be answering me very quietly the whole time....poor guy! I quickly apologized and told him that I was sorry I kept asking, I just couldn't hear him b/c he was doing such a good job being quiet.
(3) Before starting this story, I have to note that Noah only has one binky, while Micah has two. We managed to get rid of one of Noah's before we went to Utah. However, he absolutely loves that one binky.
So, during the above mentioned screaming episode, I hear this:
Noah: "Micah have Noah's binky?"
Micah: "NOOOOOOOOOO!"
Noah, you have always been so sweet! Thanks for trying to comfort your brother!

Micah-isms
Just a few things that I love when Micah says. I'm sure he will stop soon, so I wanted to record them:
* "O my gOOOdniss!"
* "Dat my faaavit"
* "yodel lay eeeee oooo"
me: "Micah, what are you doing?"
Micah: "I yodeling."
* "home...home...home" (when you ask him what Santa says...)

Funny Noah
So I just had to post this real quick before I forget...especially in light of the fact that most the funnies posted yesterday were about Micah.
Lately, when the boys throw a tantrum, I give them two options: whatever it is they are throwing the tantrum about or playing in their room by themselves. I will usually say something like this: Micah, your screaming is hurting my ears: You can either be happieeee (as my voice goes up and I give a big cheesy grin) and eat lunch with us, or you can go to your room to play by yourself. So today, it was Noah's turn to choose a movie, and Micah DID NOT want to watch the movie Noah had chosen, so he was throwing a fit. Noah beat me to it though:
Noah: Myma (Micah), ap-eeeeeeee (BIG grin) or pay room?
Micah: Screaming even louder
Noah: Myma, ap-EEEEEEE! Pease?
Micah: Still screaming
Noah: Otay, pay room, now pease.
Micah: Still screaming
Noah: Takes Micah's hand and tries to take him back to the bedroom.....
Micah: Acting like the world was ending
So, I intervened, but it was pretty funny.

Funny
I just wanted to write down some of the funny things that have happened or that the boys have said recently before I forget them. I am absolutely loving this stage with them. I will be so so sad when it is over. They are just so much fun. Hope some of these make you laugh, but even if they don't, they will make me laugh in 30+ years. Most of them are about Micah. I'm sure as Noah gets a bit more verbal, we will have a bunch more to record:
Cory: Silence...a little dumbfounded, and unsure if that really was what Micah was asking
Micah: "Whaht tieme is iet? Whaht tieme is iet?"
Cory: "Uh..........1:30?....."
Micah: "Okay" and he runs off to play again
Micah: "MommEE.....Dets go Doe! Oh, you not Doe, you Mity!"
Micah: "Mommy, where are we?"
Me: "Home"
Noah: "Yeah Mommy!" (clapping for me)
- This happened between Micah and Cory the other day:
Cory: Silence...a little dumbfounded, and unsure if that really was what Micah was asking
Micah: "Whaht tieme is iet? Whaht tieme is iet?"
Cory: "Uh..........1:30?....."
Micah: "Okay" and he runs off to play again
- I had been playing a game with the boys all day. I would say "Lets go Joe! Oh, wait, you're not Joe, you're Micah!" (Side note: When I started doing this, I suddenly had all these memories of my Dad doing the same thing with me) So, at lunch that day, this conversation happened:
Micah: "MommEE.....Dets go Doe! Oh, you not Doe, you Mity!"
- Whenever we are driving and get close to home, I say "Where are we?" and the boys say (shout) "Home!" Lately, as soon as we get close Micah will say "Noah, where are we?" and Noah will say "Home!" Well, today as we got home from church, this conversation took place:
Micah: "Mommy, where are we?"
Me: "Home"
Noah: "Yeah Mommy!" (clapping for me)
- Today, I asked the boys if they wanted to call Nanna and Grumpa (my parents) when they were all done eating. They both yelled "Yeah!" and then Micah says: "Good idea Mommy!" clear as can be.
- Cory was telling the boys stories in bed tonight (he was just making them up). He started to tell one about lost animals that someone was trying to find and started with a Hippo. Micah jumps out of bed, runs to the living room and gets a Hippo puzzle pieces. He brings it back to Cory all proud: "Found Hippo!" So Cory thanks him, forgets the rest of the story and then starts to tell a story about a Lion. Same thing happens, but this time Micah comes back with a Lion. Cory just gave up on telling the story.

All About Micah

Micah is super verbal, and it is starting to become much easier to understand him. That is a lot of fun for me since I have been waiting for this day since they were born! It is interesting though how Micah seem more focused on saying things correctly than actually communicating an idea. If he can't say it right, or I don't understand him, he is very quick to give up. He loves to sit and work on saying words correctly. We spent 10 minutes just saying Samantha over and over again the other day. He actually says the "S" sound like I used to (I think). It is almost like he is sucking in when he says an S. He copies everything I say, which is a little scary. Here are just a few of the things I have overheard him saying to someone else recently:
"Noah, no screaming"
"Noah, stop kicking Micah!"
"Samantha, no whining!"
"Daddy, say excuse me."
"Noah, it's sleep time."
"Mommy, say you're sorry."
"Noah, don't touch tv...timeout"
I guess I'm still a bit bossy!
He still loves learning. His favorite show right now is "Super Why." It is a show about super-hero kids who find the answers to their problems in books. They are always asking questions about what letters are/spelling/what sounds certain letter make. Micah just sits on the couch and stares at the TV and answers all their questions. It is a good think it is only 20 min long, or he would sit there ALL DAY. He loves to sing the abc song and can count to 22. He still finds shapes and colors everywhere and loves pointing them out to me or asking Noah to find them. He will say: "Noah, see circle?" and then wait for Noah to find it. When Noah does, Micah cheers: "Yay, Noah!"
Yesterday, we were reading a book and it had a picture of a star in it. Micah pointed to it and then proceeded to sing "Twinkle, twinkle little star." I have never sang that song to him. He sang every word...all the way through! The sleep book that Nanna gave him when Samantha was born plays the melody, but not the words...I really don't know where he picked it up! Even Noah knew most of the words.
He has started climbing a lot more recently, which makes for a lot more fun at the park (and makes it a bit more stressful for me), as well as for some interesting times at home when I find him on top of the table etc....
He is still little Mr impatient. If things don't go his way, or he can't figure something out quick enough, he tends to get frustrated very quickly...just like his Mom, poor guy! It is sometimes so funny (and other times just really exasperating) to watch him get so upset over something when you know if he just gave it 3 more seconds he would be fine.
He is also still a huge cuddle bug. He loves to give kisses and hugs and does so randomly throughout the day. He also says "I love you" all the time. It melts my heart. He NEVER forgets to have kisses after prayer. Cory started that tradition. They each give us a kiss, then each other, and then we have a family kiss. Micah NEVER EVER forgets. If I try to put him to bed right after prayer without kisses, he is super quick to remind me. I love it. He comes up to me at least once a day and asks to cuddle. Sometimes it only lasts 5 seconds, but I still love that he asks
It has also been fun to see how much more he remembers from day to day...this is true of both the boys. We started the family movie night tradition last month. It has been a whole month since we did it, but when I started setting up the fort on Wednesday, they both ran to their rooms, got their blankets and pillows and asked for popcorn. The downside is they also remeber when I promise something and don't deliver. Like, "We'll go to the park tomorrow." Yeah, they don't forget!
He has started drinking his milk out of his cereal bowl, and how can I tell him no when he sees me do the same thing every morning?

His reaction to his first taste of Hot Chocolate:

So, that is our Micah. I couldn't imagine life without him.
Friends
We have been spending a bit more time with some of Micah and Noah's friends lately. It has been so fun to watch them learn to interact and enjoy other kids. They remember most of their names and often when we go to the park or a party etc, they will name their friends one by one and ask if they are going to be there. I can easily get them in the car if I just tell them that a few of their friends are going to be wherever we are going.
Just a couple of funny stories:
(1). I got this email a few days ago from the Mom of Micah and Noah's friend Derek (unfortunately for us (but great for them), they just bought a house and moved away):
So I've been teaching Derek the primary song "Follow the Prophet." He gets a kick out of it and incredibly (thanks to the creativity of primary songs) is learning the prophets' names. I do the Adam verse, then Derek always says, "How 'bout Noah?" So we do the Noah verse. Then I try to move on to Enoch or whatever and Derek interrupts, "How 'bout Noah?" I say "Again, we already did Noah." Then he asks, "How 'bout Micah?" I always say, "There is no Micah verse." Anyway, I think you should write a Micah verse so Derek can sing it. :)
(2). We had their friend Bennett over last week to play for a couple of hours while his Mom ran some errands. Within 10 minutes of being here, Micah had thrown a fit about 5 times over Bennett playing with something that Micah didn't want him to touch. Bennett hadn't taken anything from Micah or done anything wrong, Micah just didn't want him touching any of his toys. After about 10-15 min, Micah comes over to me and in his saddest most whiny voice says: "Micah no like Bennett!" It was funny that he was so disturbed...just interesting to see how they interact. We put the toys away for a while and started dancing/playing outside. He warmed up pretty quick and later that morning was playing just fine. Now he even asks for Bennett on a regular basis and he screamed the whole 10 min ride home from his house last night b/c he didn't want to leave Bennett.
And here are just a few fun pictures from when we had their friends Caleb and Davin over a few weeks ago. We love Caleb and Davin and their fun mom, April. Whenever I mention Caleb and Davin, Micah always asks, "And April?":

Noah's Look
Even as an infant, Noah has always had a very expressive face. He has a lot of "looks." This is the one you get when you ask him to do something that he knows he should do, but doesn't really want to do:

He gave it to me this afternoon when I asked him if he was done eating and ready to go to bed. I just busted up laughing, which he thought was great, so then I asked if he would do it again for the camera, and he actually complied. It's still better in person though.

Funny
I just over heard this:
Micah: "Hey Noah! Hot Stuff Man!"
Noah: "Thank you."

So cute, but a bit scary
Micah is becoming VERY verbal lately. He is still a bit tough to understand, but he is getting clearer every day. I just wanted to note a few things that he said today, b/c they were so cute:
(1) Noah was having trouble getting a puzzle piece in and started getting really frustrated. Micah went over, put the piece in for him and said: "Dare oo go, Nona."
(2) He came up to me while I was sitting on the couch and said: "Micah wan dit on Mommee." How could I resist? I pulled him right up on my lap.
(3) He saw a flute on a Baby Einstein movie and said "Mommee pay fute. Daddee pay geetar"
It is a bit scary though b/c I can see him picking up things I say and do. Hopefully most of that is good. One that isn't so good...and actually both the boys do this. When they are about to do something I don't want them to do (like get knives out of the dishwasher which is what happened today), I often ask "What did Mommy say?" to which they respond with a very firm NO and a shake of their pointer finger. I didn't even know I did that when I said no, but where else would they have learned it? I'm sure this is only the beginning.

Fun at the Park
It is nice to be able to get out of the house on occasion...for the boys and for myself! It hasn't been too so easy since my parents/sister left!
We are getting better though. This last week, I took all three kids to the bank, post office, 3 grocery stores, and a drug store! They all did really well. They actually tend to do really well whenever we go out.
A funny story: There have been a couple of women in my ward who have been extremely helpful since my parents left (as well as quite a few Young Women). One of them took the boys for a few hours the first couple of afternoons that I was all on my own (I still wasn't supposed to be lifting the boys). I guess that they were having a really hard time as she drove away. She and her daughter tried everything they could think of to make them happy, but nothing seemed to be working. So, then they asked, "Do you want to go shopping?" Both boys immediately stopped crying and said "yeah!" So, she went to the grocery store and picked up a few things. They were perfectly happy from then on. Maybe I spend a little too much time in the grocery store?......
Anyway, back to the point of this post. We took a bunch of trips to the park while my parents were here. The boys love it there, so it was nice for them to go again and again while we had the help. I'm a little worried about how I will do it by myself with all three of them though...I have yet to try. I guess I'll just have to strap Samantha in the carrier again. It sure is a good thing she is happy there!

Trucks
Noah LOVES trucks. It is super cute b/c ANYTIME he hears anything that sounds even remotely close to a truck, he wants to go outside to see it. He get super excited and points and the door saying "truck, truck, truck, truck, truck truck....." until we take him out. Drives me crazy on the days that there are a lot of truck like sounds outside. The funniest part is that he get SUPER nervous once we actually get anywhere near the truck and just starts saying "all done...all done...all done." Funny Noah.

Little Devils
You know that feeling of dread when your kids are home, but your house just gets a bit too quiet?
Yeah, well, last week, I was in the office on a phone call with the pharmacy trying to clear up some billing issues while the boys played out in the living room (or so I thought). It was a really important phone call that I have been trying to make for weeks. The girl I needed to talk to was finally in the office, but they had me on hold waiting for her. It suddenly got VERY quiet, and I just knew I should go check on the boys, but unfortunately, I wasn't smart enough to make the call on our cordless. So, against my better instinct, I waited. After being on hold for about 15 minutes total, I finally just hung up and went to see what they were up to.
I found them in their room, covered in their VERY EXPENSIVE diaper cream from head to toe...they had also spread it all over the carpet, changing table, and pack and play. When I walked in, they were just SO proud of themselves it was everything I could do not to laugh. I picked them both up, dumped them in the tub and then ran to get the camera. I only got the one picture b/c I was pretty anxious to get them cleaned up before they ruined anything else.......yeah, those are my boys!

Elmo is EVERYWHERE!

So, up until a few weeks ago, our boys had never seen sesame street. The only things they watch are Signing Time, Baby Einstein, or the Motab.
But a few weeks ago, Elmo entered our lives. It all started with a sesame street puzzle we got from a friend (thanks Leslie!). As the boys put it together, I would tell them who all the characters were in some sort of funny voice...monster-like for Cookie monster, bird-like for Big-Bird, and Elmo-like for Elmo. Well, for some reason, they decided that Elmo was their favorite. Mind you, they had never seen him anywhere before! But then he started showing up EVERYWHERE!
A few days later, Micah comes up to me with a diaper saying "Elmo," and it took me a few minutes, but I finally realized that Elmo is on the pampers diapers. The next day, Noah was standing in the kitchen pointing way up high frantically saying "Elmo," and I realized that we have straw cups with Elmo on them. He just HAD to have one. A while later, I was putting Micah's bib on and he started throwing a mini fit, which isn't all that abnormal at bib putting on time, but this time he was screaming "Elmo." I then realized that we have bibs with Elmo on them, and that wasn't the one I was putting on him. Funny that we had all this in the house all this time, and I never even knew it...it took 2 20 mo olds to point it out to me!
A few days after that, we went to a WIC appointment and just as we pulled up, both boys started yelling "ELMO!" Yep, there was a HUGE Elmo painted on the window. I guess WIC is partnering up with Sesame Street to promote healthy eating. We got a free 30 min sesame street video that day all about healthy eating. Elmo is the star. Needless to say, our boys are in heaven!

Belly Pic, Sleepy Boys
This picture was taken mid-march, so I was just under 5 months pregnant. I am a TON bigger now. I will post a new picture soon.

Occasionally, both boys will happily cuddle with mommy (usually, they won't cuddle with me at the same time, they just get jealous and push/shove each other) and I take full advantage. Cory getting out the camera distracted them a bit, they really were both just totally relaxed with me. It is awesome. I love cuddling with each of them, but both at once is a real treat.

We are going through the 2 nap to 1 nap transition right now and there are some days that the boys just don't quite make it. Noah loves to have his back tickled. He climbed up on Cory one morning and Cory started tickling his back. Within minutes he fell asleep. Too cute.

Funny Micah
Micah has figured out where the power button is on the TV

and he really likes to turn it off and on. He can barely reach. He has to stand on his tippy toes

and reach as far as he can with his cute little finger,

but he can do it. He is so proud of himself once he does. Drives us nuts, but he loves it.

Funny Noah
Noah is a pretty funny kid. He has some interesting eating habits lately. He LOVES to throw his food. Well, he actually likes to throw anything, but food is especially fun b/c it get a rise out of mommy and Micah cracks up. Yeah, we are working on that....He also loves to put his foot on the table and just kick back while he is eating. He makes the funniest faces too...we caught both the leg thing and some faces in these pictures.

The other day, I was working in the office and I left the boys out watching a movie. I came out to check on them 10 min later or so and I found Noah sitting in this drawer looking straight up at the TV watching his movie (the drawer is part of the entertainment center). No crying, just perfectly content. He was a bit worried about what I would think though (obvious by the look on his face...)

I came out to check on them 10 min later or so and I found Noah sitting in this drawer looking straight up at the TV watching his movie (the drawer is part of the entertainment center). No crying, just perfectly content. He was a bit worried about what I would think though (obvious by the look on his face...)
