Wow. One of those days that you just can't do anything but laugh.
It started about 11:00 last night. Micah woke up. Since it happens so rarely as of late, I generally go to them if they wake up. So, I went in and he was fine. He had his bink. No fever. He was clean and dry. Blanket was missing though, so I gave it to him and he went right back to sleep. About 20 min later, he woke up again. Normally, I would have waited a bit to see if he would put himself back to sleep, but he was rather loud. Noah had gone to bed with a temp., so I didn't want Micah to wake him. So, I went in. Bad idea. I guess he decided he liked the idea of mom in his room at night b/c this repeated itself 11 times over the next five hours. Finally, (at 4:00 am), I decided he was just going to cry it out. He got VERY loud. He woke Cory up and Cory thought maybe he was hungry. So he fed Micah a bottle and 5 min later, Noah was screaming for one of his own. I went in to Noah and he was burning up, and soaking wet with the inside of the diaper exploded all over him (have you ever tried to clean that stuff up? It is impossible!?! It's a bunch of really weird jell like beads.) So, we turned on a light, got Noah some Tylenol, cleaned him up, re diapered/dressed him, fed him a bottle and put both boys back to bed. Mercifully, they slept until 7:10 instead of the usual 6:00.
After breakfast, I was carrying Micah to the sink when I slipped on some banana someone threw on the ground and fell with him in my arms. He was fine...just scared, but I couldn't catch my fall, so my backside/back took quite the beating. At least I fell backwards instead of forward, right? Noah was SUPER clingy all morning with a temp that hovered around 102 with Tylenol/Motrin every three hours. I tried putting them down for their nap early (not likely since they slept in), but they wouldn't even take their bottles. Micah just wanted to play and Noah just wanted to cry and cuddle. So we watched signing time and cuddled on the couch until about 9:45 when we tried the nap again. They took their bottles, but while I was changing Noah's diaper, he saw something interesting off to his left, twisted real quick and smeared the brown stuff all over my arm/hand. (luckily nothing got on the carpet) So we cleaned that up and got them down.
Then I went into crazy mom mode trying to get showered/ready to leave by 10:15 for their well check. I packed the bag with everything tasty and fun I could think of. Lots of talking toys, yummy treats, bottles, and sippy cups. I burned my hand on some hot apples I was cooking for them and tripped as I was getting into the shower and bumped my head pretty good.
After a 30 min nap (instead of the usual 1 1/2 - 2 hrs), I woke up the boys and we were on our way to the Dr appt. The drive there was great...perfect...the best thing that had happened all morning. I got to the parking lot with about 3 min to spare. No parking on the 1st level...2nd level...3rd level...4th level...5th level...finally, a spot! So, I pull in. Unfortunately, I didn't realize someone else was about to pull out right next to me. I jumped right out of the car and my door got in the way of this other guy who wanted to back up. Nothing happened (no one ran into it, I mean), but the guy in the car was FURIOUS! He just started yelling that I have no right to waste his time and who says I should go first. I was so frustrated I couldn't do anything but ignore him...I wanted to scream right back, but just didn't have the time.
About this time, I realize that I had forgotten the stroller and it was quite a walk to the office. So, I pick up my purse, the diaper bags and both boys and start the trek. My arms were shaking by the time I got to the elevator just 50 yards away! We stood at the elevator for FOREVER until someone finally said: "It's out of order." So, we walked down 5 flights of stairs, then into the building, then took a working elevator back up 3 flights and then over to the office. Mind you, it was 98 degrees out today and I was dripping (literally) by the time I got to the office. So were the the poor boys!
Once there, they sat on a couple of chairs and ate some snacks and were really good. Overall, the appointment went well. I will post the details at the end. Noah has a virus that cause a high fever for three days and then a rash. Micah had the same thing last week. Other than that, everyone was very healthy. The only tough thing about the appointment was that since Cory wasn't there, I have to hold one baby down while the Dr checks him out with the other baby crying and hanging on to my legs...I don't' really get to comfort them at all b/c once she is done with the first, I set him down and hold down his brother while the first one holds onto my legs and cries...or screams. They didn't get their immunizations b/c of Noah's fever, so luckily, we will get to come back with Daddy to get that done.
She did want to send us for blood work though to check on some allergies. Micah has had some reactions to a lot of stuff and Noah has developed so SEVERE eczema. Unfortunately, since our insurance changed, they can no longer do that there, so we have to go to another builiding with another parking lot, pay for parking a 2nd time, cart the boys in again and then last but not least have their blood drawn. By this time, the boys were pretty tired, and a bit grumpy...especially Noah. Luckily, there wasn't much of a wait time and everyone was pretty nice. Within about 45 min we were back in the car. The boys were doing okay playing with their bandaids and eating crackers.
Then I got lost trying to get back on the freeway and our AC stopped working (it was 98 degrees and a 30 min drive home once I found the correct freeway). UGH!
Needless to say, I am so glad to be home with two napping babies and a big glass of Dr Pepper. I just had to record this day b/c I really want to be able to look back and laugh! It has been crazy! I will post the boys 12 mo updates (w/slideshows!!!) tomorrow.
To finish the day:
*I spilled 1/2 the $170 worth of medication the Dr gave us for Noah's eczema all over the bathroom floor.
A couple of good notes:
*I got to cuddle with Noah for a few hours today. SO SWEET!
*I think Noah said "thanks" a couple of times when I gave him some food...not sure, but I said "your welcome" just in case. It was really cute
*Cory helped me clean up dinner w/o my even asking him to
*I got $278 worth of groceries for $94
*I had an oreo shake to make me feel better...haven't had one of those in months.
*I have two beautiful, healthy boys who make me laugh every day, even today
