Micah at 12 months

Micah

Stats from his well check:

Weight: 25 lbs 8 oz which puts him in the 70%.

Height: 28 1/2 inches: 5%

Head 19 1/4 inches: 99%

Height to weight ratio: 99%

How it went:

I was concerned about his height to weight ratio, but the Dr said she isn't concerned b/c he doesn't eat any sweets, juice, or much fat. He pretty much lives on fresh fruit & veggies, oatmeal, toast, cream of wheat, crackers, cheerios, and water. A typical breakfast: (1) A full bowl of cream of wheat, (2) A piece of toast, (3) A banana, (4) A cup of some other fruit! Does that seem like a lot to anyone else?!? That is more than I eat! He is all business when he eats...he usually has 2-3 pieces of food in his mouth and in each hand. He shovels in it SUPER fast...we are often afraid he will choke. He isn't really interested is using a fork/spoon...it takes too long. He rarely plays with his food unless he is completely done.

I was also concerned about him not walking, but the Dr. assured us that 13-14 months is average and that proficient crawlers often walk late...even up to 17 months. She said not to worry until then. I hope it doesn't take that long. Carrying the both of them is getting old.

Other than that, he is very healthy.

Random Facts:

He is drinks a bottle of water before his naps/bedtime. It has to be warm or he won't drink it. He
will not drink from a sippy cup. He can, and has, but he just won't. We have tried 4-5 different ones. Even the one with the straw. He will, however, drink from a normal cup or water bottle that I hold for him. The Dr suggested just continuing this for the next 4-5 months until he can hold it on his own, but I would prefer not to, so any suggestions?

He can sign (and regularly does) the following words: more, milk (he just means drink), dog, banana, Signing Time, (when he wants to watch the show, which he LOVES), all done, horse feet (from Mr Brown can moo), cracker, bath, book, eat, and I think that is all...

He can say the following: Jesus, Mom, Dad, Ball, More, Banana, book (the last four sound very similar)

He tries very hard to figure out a way to tell you (signs/sounds etc) what he wants before he starts crying.

He can take 6-7 steps on his own, although he still prefers to crawl. He will walk holding on to our hands or the couch etc, but generally won't walk on his own without a lot of encouragement.

He has six teeth sweetest little smile. He eyes light up when he smiles. He sticks out his lip right before he is going to cry REALLY loud.

He loves to be outside. He loves playing the piano with Mommy. He loves flying through the air. He plays catch with Dad, and even throws the ball. He loves to give kisses...big sloppy wet ones. He LOVES to dance, and will often ask to by "dancing," and then crawling over to the stereo and pointing. He even knows some "moves." There is a certain song that I always do the same actions to during the chorus and as soon as that song comes on, he does those actions. He does then again every time the chorus comes on. Pretty cute.

He knows what sound a cow makes and where his head, ears, mouth, and toes are.

His laughs hard when: (1) He is stuck in his crib and the mommy monster tries to get him, but he sticks he hands through the bars and pushes her to the ground (with a loud grunt) first (2) He is being tickled (3) He is playing on Mommy and Daddy's bed...not quite sure what makes this so funny...but it is (4) He plays with his friend in the mirror...kisses and everything. Sometimes this is so funny, he falls over backward. (5) Playing the drums on the piano bench with Mommy. (6) He feeds Mommy or Daddy (7) He flies through the air to "get" Daddy or Noah.

He hates: (1) When Mommy holds Noah and not him (2) When Mommy makes dinner instead of holding him. (3) Getting Dressed (4) Having his diaper changed (5) Being tired (6) Not being allowed to go outside.

He is such a joy to have in our family. He makes us so happy every day and, like his brother, has a way of helping me to be better than what I've been. We love you Micah!

  2. Your boys are so cute!
Just so you know, Douglas will not use a sippy cup either. Both of my other boys loved them, but Douglas will not. But he loves it when I hold a cup and for him too! I've had friends with kids that wouldn't use anything but regular cups either. You could always keep one around and then maybe he'll warm up to it, but to be honest I hate always having to wash it if he's not even using it. Regular cups are cheaper anyway. :)
