Noah 1st ER trip

We often put the boys up on the counter in their feeding chairs to feed them. So, Sunday evening (the 22nd), Noah was on the counter in his chair. I left him there after we finished feeding him and started making dinner. I also used to do this a lot...the boys seem to really like watching me. I'm always (well usually....) there with them and it is just a fun way to interact with them. Anyway, Sunday I took a phone call and left the kitchen. Cory was at the computer. Noah started rocking in his chair and before we realized it, he had fallen head first off the 4 ft counter. He didn't cry immediately (scary) and Cory got to him first. He was upside down under his chair. Cory gently turned him over and he started screaming which is about when I got there. There was already a HUGE black and blue goose egg. We didn't move him for a couple of minutes while Cory gave him a blessing. He was able to move his neck all around and was screaming at the top of his lungs, so we picked him up, got Micah out of his chair (which was on top of the table!) and left for the ER. He screamed the whole way there and kept looking at me cross eyed. I couldn't stop shaking. His goose egg was HUGE! They actually got us in pretty quick at the ER.....his age, the fact that he wouldn't stop crying, and the trouble focusing (cross eyed) had them concerned. They ended up doing a CT scan and a chest xray and found nothing wrong...he is fine. Poor guy though...he woke up during the CT scan (they try to do it when they are asleep so they don't have to use anesthesia) and was strapped in to this crazy machine all by himself. He just screamed and thrashed...he actually got himself out of the straps! I almost lost it at that point....I just felt so bad for him and so guilty for not being more careful. He stayed asleep for the 2nd scan though and did just great. We feel so blessed that he is fine. I can't believe he didn't break his neck.
His goose egg the day it happened:
This wasn't the greatest picture. He was really sad and wiggly and the hair and angle make it hard to see, but it was HUGE!
His sad little hospital admittance bracelet:

His goose egg today. Much easier to see without all the hair! It is actually a lot smaller than it was when it happened....

  1. Poor Noah and poor YOU! That is so scary! I'm glad Cory was home and that Noah is fine. Taylor split her head open when she was 20 months old on the molding at the base of our window and Andy wasn't home. Good thing for me Andy works at the hospital so I was able to meet him there. It would be too soon if I EVER had to go to the ER again with my kids!

Micah and Noah are SO CUTE! I love their bald little heads. I can't believe they're 9 1/2 months old already! They don't stay babies for long so enjoy every moment!

  2. I can't believe the size of the bump on his head. And that was the day after! And how scary to watch your kid go through a CT scan. Téa had her kindergarten shots today and that was bad enough watching them stick her 4 times. (I posted all about it on my blog). It's hard to watch that stuff and feel so helpless.

PS. If I could shave my girl's heads and put an end to the hair pulling I would gladly do it.
