I had a doctor's appt on Friday and they measured my uterus for the 1st time. (I guess they don't do that a lot with twins b/c it always shows you are further along than you are, but he said he just thought it would be interesting to find out) I measured 46 weeks! No wonder I feel so huge! The doctor just laughed and said "I guess your body thinks you are 46 weeks pregnant, but the babies don't agree." (the hormone that triggers labor starts with the babies). So, yes, I'm pretty uncomfortable, but I have decided that I just need to be patient and focus on how grateful I am that everything has gone SO well with this pregnancy. As far as twin pregnancies go, it couldn't be better.
We also had an ultrasound last week and the nurse just started freaking out b/c the babies were lying chest to chest and you could see both their heartbeats at the same time in the screen. (I guess it is pretty rare, she says she has never seen that in 30 years) It was pretty sweet. They also told us that we should pretty much expect a C-Section. Unless Baby B flips vertex again (which they say is possible) or their weight difference goes down (which they say is pretty unlikely), we will have to have a C-Section. So when/if I go into labor they would do another ultrasound to see positions/weight and we would decide then. If I haven't gone into labor by next Monday (17th), they will do a similar ultrasound that day and schedule either a C-Section or induction for sometime in the following 5-7 days.
Thanks for the update. All weekend I kept thinking, she's probably had the babies!! I just can't figure out why if they are both healthy and their weight is good, which I assume it is since you are so far along why they don't just do a C section since they think that's pretty likely anyway! Most twins don't incubate this long at all. I bet you are just miserably uncomfortable. Well, try to keep comfy. Find a pool or something maybe and hang in there. I'll keep waiting. Love ya!
ReplyDeleteThey don't want to take any unnecessary risks I guess...statistically, over 95% of babies are fine at this point and the percentage is even higher for twins, but there are risks with both inductions and C-sections that they don't want to take unless they have to. So...I have 3 Dr appts a week to make sure babies/placentas are okay. If anything were wrong, they would take them, but otherwise....I just get to wait. At 38 weeks I guess the risks of waiting any longer outweigh the risks of a forced induction/c-section...
ReplyDeleteYou are such a trooper! The end is almost in sight. We are glad they are and you are still doing so very well....what a blessing! I'm sure though the waiting seams like it will never end...it does : ) Grandma Franks told me when Alsye was a week over due that she was just up there (heaven) primping to make sure she looked good when she came down....If that is what girls do I wonder what the boys are up to????
ReplyDeleteTake care, and give that hubby a hug for us...if you can reach him....hahha
